The Twin Forts of Komenda and the Komenda Wars

The Komenda Wars (1694–1700) were a series of violent conflicts along the coast of present-day Ghana, sparked by rivalry between Dutch and English trading companies. Their struggle for commercial dominance divided local chiefs and families, as European powers manipulated African political alliances for their own gain. The wars reveal the heavy local cost of foreign competition and the deep social disruptions caused by European intervention in West African trade.
